DJI Agras T100: More Than a Spraying Drone

The DJI Agras T100 is more than a spraying drone, it’s one of the most capable agricultural drones DJI has produced. With a 100 litre spray tank, 150 litre spreading system and up to 100 kg lifting capability, it is easy to look at the T100 and immediately think of crop spraying.

But in the UK, the conversation needs to be more careful than that.

At the moment, pesticide spraying by drone is not a simple “buy the drone and start spraying” opportunity. UK rules around plant protection products, aerial spraying, operator competence, product authorisation and CAA operational approval all need to be understood before anyone starts using an agricultural drone for pesticide application.

That does not mean the DJI Agras T100 has no place in the UK. Far from it. In fact, the strongest use cases today may be the ones that go beyond pesticide spraying: spreading seed, applying compatible non-pesticide materials, moving loads across difficult terrain, supporting estate management, helping wildfire preparedness and providing a new level of heavy-lift capability for rural operations.

The T100 Is a Serious Agricultural Platform

The DJI Agras T100 is not a small drone with an agricultural attachment. It is a heavy-duty platform designed for demanding work. Depending on configuration, DJI lists the T100 with a 100 litre spray system, a 150 litre spreading system and a lifting system capable of carrying up to 100 kg.

That makes it a very different proposition from smaller survey or inspection drones. It is designed to move meaningful volumes of liquid, seed, fertiliser, granular material or equipment across land where traditional access may be slow, expensive, damaging or difficult.

For the right operator, this opens up some very interesting opportunities.

The Important UK Question: Can You Spray Pesticides with a Drone?

This is where UK customers need straight advice.

The T100 is technically designed for spraying, but that does not automatically mean UK operators can use it for commercial pesticide application. In the UK, pesticide application by drone is currently treated as aerial spraying. That means it is prohibited unless authorised by the Health and Safety Executive through the correct permit process.

HSE guidance currently states that there are no commercial authorisations, either on-label or Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use, to allow pesticides to be applied by drone in the UK. Drone pesticide use is currently limited to a small number of Extrapolated Trials Permits, which are designed to generate evidence for future commercial authorisations.

In practical terms, this means UK customers should not view the DJI Agras T100 as a “ready to go pesticide spraying drone” unless the correct HSE, product-specific and CAA approvals are in place.

That distinction matters. It protects the customer, the operator, the landowner and the industry.

So Where Does the T100 Fit in the UK Today?

The opportunity for the Agras T100 is not just spraying. In many cases, the more immediate UK applications may sit around spreading, lifting, logistics and land management support.

These are areas where the T100’s large payload, powerful propulsion system and modular design could make a real difference.

1. Seed Spreading and Re-Seeding

One of the most interesting UK applications for the T100 is spreading seed.

The 150 litre spreading system allows the T100 to distribute compatible granular materials across fields, slopes, wet ground, difficult terrain or areas where machinery access may be limited. This could be useful for grass seed, cover crops, environmental schemes, re-seeding, habitat creation and land restoration projects.

For farms and estates, this could reduce the need to put heavy machinery onto sensitive ground. For conservation projects, it could allow seed to be distributed in areas that are awkward, remote or environmentally sensitive.

Operators still need to think carefully about the material being spread, the condition of the land, drift, accuracy, environmental sensitivity, landowner permissions and whether the seed or material has any treatment or regulatory restrictions. But compared with pesticide spraying, seed spreading may be a more realistic and immediate use case for many UK operators.

2. Fertiliser and Granular Material Application

The T100’s spreading system is also designed for fertiliser and other compatible granular materials.

This could be useful where ground conditions make tractor access difficult, where soil compaction is a concern, or where a landowner needs a faster way to cover specific areas without sending machinery across the field.

It may also be valuable on steep, wet or fragmented land where conventional machinery is inefficient. Instead of trying to access every part of a site with a vehicle, the drone can work from a controlled take-off area and distribute material from above.

However, operators should not assume that every material is automatically suitable. Granule size, weight, flow behaviour, application rate, environmental restrictions and product guidance all need to be checked before use.

3. Heavy Lifting Across Farms, Estates and Remote Sites

The lifting capability of the Agras T100 is one of its most exciting features.

With up to 100 kg lifting capacity, the T100 could be used to move equipment, supplies or materials across sites where access is slow or difficult. For example, farms, estates, forestry sites, remote infrastructure locations and moorland areas may all benefit from a heavy-lift drone that can move useful loads without needing a vehicle track.

Potential lifting use cases include:

  • Moving tools and equipment across large estates
  • Transporting supplies to remote work areas
  • Supporting fencing, forestry or upland maintenance work
  • Moving lightweight materials across wet or uneven ground
  • Reducing manual handling over long distances
  • Supporting emergency or resilience planning on rural sites

This type of operation still needs serious planning. A drone carrying a suspended load is not the same as a small camera drone. Operators need to consider payload security, emergency procedures, overflight areas, ground risk, wind, route planning, crew roles and CAA operational authorisation.

But as a practical rural logistics tool, the T100 could become very valuable.

4. Wildfire Management and Rural Resilience

Wildfire management is becoming an increasingly important issue for UK landowners, estates, utilities, fire services and local authorities. Drones are already being used by emergency services for aerial awareness, thermal imaging, incident monitoring and safer decision-making.

The T100 adds a different angle because it is not only a camera platform. It is a heavy payload platform.

Potential wildfire-related applications could include moving equipment to remote areas, supporting controlled land management work, transporting water or supplies in carefully planned environments, assisting with post-fire restoration and helping land managers access difficult ground without placing people at unnecessary risk.

It is important not to oversell this. The T100 is not a replacement for firefighters, fire appliances, incident command or specialist wildfire teams. Any use around live incidents would need to be properly authorised, coordinated and risk assessed. But as part of wider land management and resilience planning, heavy-lift drones could become an important tool.

5. Conservation, Habitat and Land Restoration Work

Beyond mainstream agriculture, the T100 may also have a role in conservation and land restoration.

Seed spreading, habitat creation, re-wilding support, peatland restoration, erosion control and remote site logistics are all areas where drones could help reduce the need for heavy vehicles or repeated manual journeys.

For organisations managing large areas of land, the ability to distribute seed or move materials without damaging access routes could be a major benefit.

UK Compliance: What Operators Need to Think About

The DJI Agras T100 is a large and powerful aircraft. UK operators should not treat it like a standard commercial drone.

Before operating a T100, customers will need to consider:

  • CAA operational authorisation
  • Whether the intended operation falls under UK SORA
  • Remote pilot competence and training
  • Operating procedures and risk assessments
  • Payload and lifting risk
  • Emergency planning
  • Ground risk and exclusion zones
  • Insurance
  • Landowner permission
  • Environmental controls
  • Product-specific rules for anything being sprayed or spread

For pesticide use specifically, the operator would also need to consider HSE requirements, product authorisation, aerial spraying permits, operator pesticide qualifications and equipment inspection requirements.

This is why customers should seek advice before buying, not after.

Why the T100 Still Matters, Even Before Drone Pesticide Spraying Becomes Mainstream

It would be easy to dismiss agricultural spraying drones in the UK because pesticide rules are currently restrictive. That would be a mistake.

The DJI Agras T100 is not only about pesticides. It is a heavy-duty agricultural and rural operations platform with multiple possible uses. Seed spreading, fertiliser spreading, land restoration, lifting, logistics and wildfire support could all become important use cases for UK customers.

At the same time, the regulatory landscape is developing. Trials, product authorisations and future HSE guidance may eventually create a clearer route for commercial drone pesticide application in the UK. Operators who understand the technology now may be better placed when that market opens properly.

For now, the sensible approach is to be realistic: the T100 has huge potential, but it needs to be matched to the right job, the right authorisation and the right operating procedures.

Who Should Be Looking at the DJI Agras T100?

The T100 is likely to be most relevant for:

  • Agricultural contractors
  • Large farms and estates
  • Forestry and land management organisations
  • Conservation and habitat restoration projects
  • Utility and infrastructure operators with remote assets
  • Fire and resilience teams exploring heavy-lift drone support
  • Organisations needing to move loads across difficult terrain

It is probably not the right choice for someone who simply wants to experiment with drones. This is a serious aircraft for serious work, and it should be approached with the same level of planning as any other high-risk operational system.
